Induced Autotetraploids in <i>Salvia miltiorrhiza</i> and Their Agronomic Traits

Salvia miltiorrhiza is an important medicinal plant for its special pharmacological activity in cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. The objective of this work was to develop S. autotetraploid through colchicine reveal their agronomic traits. For polyploidy induction miltiorrhiza, seedlings at the shoot apexes stage were treated with various concentrations [0, 0.1%, 0.2%, 0.3% (w/v)] three times (3, 5, 7 applications). Putative selected by morphological stomatal characteristics, ploidy level confirmed flow cytometry analysis chromosome counting. As expected, number 2n=2x=16 diploids, 2n=4x=32 autotetraploid. According results, 0.2% (w/v) treatment 6 can be effective miltiorrhiza. plants usually accompanied larger leaf size, stoma pollen grains, but a decrease percentage normal pollen. Since some showed physiological traits, antioxidant enzyme activity, wet weight, bioactive compounds content superiorities compared diploid plants, they used as germplasm materials breeding
